Calculate the Drop-off Rate (by step):
Use the values from the attached CSV to calculate Drop-off Rate for each step in the funnel using the following formula:
Drop-off Rate (Step i) = (Number of users who exit at Step i ÷ Total number of users who enter Step i) × 100
Provide columns in one of these formats:
Wide format (recommended):
"[Step 1 – users entered]", "[Step 1 – users exited]"
"[Step 2 – users entered]", "[Step 2 – users exited]"
…continue for each step
Long format (alternative):
"[Step Name]", "[Users Entered]", "[Users Exited]"
Output requirements:
A table of all steps with: Users Entered, Users Exited, and Drop-off Rate %, sorted highest → lowest drop-off.
Identify the primary bottleneck (highest drop-off step).
Compute and report the overall completion rate from first to last step for context: (final step entrants ÷ first step entrants) × 100.
After calculating each Drop-off Rate, report where it lands on the following scale (lower is better):
Very Good = below 10%
Good = 10–19%
Average = 20–29%
Poor = 30–39%
Very Poor = 40% and above
Next, analyze the responses in the column "[Column with qualitative explanations]" in the CSV (e.g., open-text notes or session observations) to identify common reasons for drop-off at the top 1–2 bottleneck steps and provide clear, actionable suggestions to reduce drop-off.
Drop-off Rate — Example Report
Summary
Overall Completion Rate: 62% (from Step 1 entrants → Step 4 completions)
Highest Drop-off Step: Step 2 → Step 3 (Form Entry) at 28% (Average)
Key Finding: Majority of exits occur during the form entry step, especially on mobile.

Key Observations
Step 2 (Cart → Form Entry) had the largest drop-off at 28%, pulling down the funnel’s overall success.
Step 3 (Form Entry → Review) also saw notable friction with 21% exits, linked to validation and field complexity.
Steps 1 and 4 performed relatively well, both under 15% drop-off (Good).
Qualitative Insights (from explanations column)
Top themes and share of mentions at bottleneck steps:
Form confusion (labels, required fields unclear) — 34%
“Didn’t know what to put for account number.”
Validation errors with no guidance — 27%
“Kept saying my phone number was invalid, but it looked fine.”
Too many required fields — 22%
“Felt like overkill, I gave up.”
Mobile formatting issues — 10%
“Fields were too small on my phone.”
Slow load after cart submission — 7%
Recommendations
Simplify form step — reduce fields, mark optional ones clearly, and group related inputs.
Improve validation feedback — inline, specific, and actionable error messages.
Optimize mobile UX — larger input fields, numeric keyboards for phone/zip, one-column layout.
Add progress indicator — reassure users of task length, especially at Step 2–3.
Test autofill and integrations (e.g., saved addresses) to reduce typing friction.
Next Checks
Run an A/B test simplifying the form (10 fields → 6 fields).
Track mobile vs. desktop drop-off after changes.
Monitor session replay heatmaps to see if validation errors reduce.
Target: Reduce Step 2 drop-off from 28% → ≤15% and overall completion rate from 62% → ≥80%.
