This week we’re talking about expectations…because every user arrives with a guess about what your design will do. And if reality doesn’t match that guess, things fall apart fast. On the Glare page, we show how one ecommerce brand used the Expectations metric to test whether their new feature delivered what users thought it would. The result: fewer wrong turns, clearer decisions, and a better path forward.
We’ve also dropped the full set of interview clips with Martin Tomitsch and Steve Baty on systems mapping. Their take? Every design choice creates ripple effects, some you plan for, and others you don’t. Thinking in systems helps you see both.
Plus, a standout Helio Linkedin post from Mitchell Clements this week argues that UX isn’t just about usability. It’s about delivering value, and that responsibility belongs to designers, too. Lots of sharp thinking in here. Dive in and let us know what sparks something for you. Bryan |

Does your design match what users expect?
Before anyone clicks, they already have an idea of what will happen. The Expectations metric shows whether your design delivers on that idea. We show you an example of a new event suggestion feature with an e-commerce company called Getup. They asked users what they expected to see, then checked if the experience matched. The result? A clear view into how well the feature communicated and how aligned it was with user thinking. This kind of insight helps you reduce confusion, smooth the path, and keep users on track. LINKEDIN POSTS
In this week’s featured post, Mitchell Clements is arguing that UX designers should be equally responsible for delivering value to users, not just ensuring usability.
He challenges the notion that product managers own “value” and designers only own “usability,” urging that UX should focus on making products meaningful, useful, and valuable, placing value before usability. Read more: Great design delivers meaningful value to users.

Bryan emphasizes that while users won’t spell out exactly what to build, their behaviors and feedback offer critical clues. He believes that while research alone won’t give you a finished vision, it provides valuable clues through observed behavior and feedback. → Great design combines intuition with user insight
